Bad Links? | Fairburns OKs new subdivisionBy BEN NELMS The path was cleared March 28 for the development of 27 new homes when the Fairburn City council voted unanimously to grant final plat approval for the Valley View Estates Subdivision. The subdivision will be located immediately to the west of the intersection of Malone Street and Valley View Drive. Developed in accordance with R-3 zoning requirements with a Green Communities Overlay, the subdivision will consist of 27 lots on approximately 15.5 acres. Homes will be a minimum of 1,600 square feet. The final plat calls for nearly 10 acres of greenspace to be maintained and nearly 1.3 acres of right-of-way, with the remaining 4.3 acres designated for the 27 lots. City planning staff recommended approval with the understanding that minor technical details be resolved and the off-site stormwater runoff detention area be completed and approved prior to any lots being sold for development, city administrator Jim Williams told council members in a March 23 memo. The stormwater runoff detention area will be located directly southeast of the subdivision in the Fairburn Commons Subdivision. Williams said the project was an excellent example of the proper use of overlay zoning. The final plat gained approval of the citys Planning commission at its March 1 meeting. |
