Bad Links? | City may need more copsBy JOHN THOMPSON A Sunday incident is causing Senoias leaders to consider hiring more police officers. The police need help and we have got to do something to fix the problems, resident Keith Harrison told the City Council Monday night. On Sunday, Harrison had to call the police to his house on Main Street after a feud broke out between him and the neighbor, Arzulla Keith, who lives behind him. As I understand it, Mr. Harrison was having a survey done for a fence and it was a property line dispute, said Senoia Police Chief Olitta Bennett. Harrison said there wee 10-11 people involved in the dispute and one of the parties took a swing at the Senoia police officer who responded to the call. He did not have any back-up, Harrison said. The officer called for help, but it took the Coweta County Sheriffs Department 30 minutes to respond. The chief explained that Sundays are usually fairly quiet, so she only has one officer scheduled to work. She announced yesterday that Keith was arrested for obstruction because she refused to reveal the names of the other people involved in the altercation. We will find out who swung at our deputy, she said. Mayor Robert Hannah said this type of activity would not be allowed and asked for the police committee to study the issue and make a recommendation about future staffing for the department. We may have lost this one, but we will win, said Bennett. |
