Bad Links? | Rockaway Road delay blamed on PTCBy JOHN THOMPSON Senoias residents want answers on the traffic-clogged Rockaway Road and Ga. Highway 74 intersection. Its not going to be too long before one of us is on a stretcher on that road, Springdale resident Dan Spencer told the City Council Monday night. Mayor Robert Hannah sympathized with Spencers sentiments, but said there was not much more the city could do to alleviate traffic problems at that intersection. Weve written letters and talked to folks, but theres only so much we can do, Hannah said. The dangerous intersection is in Peachtree Citys jurisdiction and thats where City Councilman Larry Owens said residents need to focus their efforts. All the efforts are being held up by one person, Owens said. In February, Hannah proposed a three-way stop sign at the intersection as a temporary fix. But since the stop signs would have to placed in Peachtree City in Fayette County, the council decided to send letters to both governments and ask for their help on the issue. Peachtree City Mayor Steve Brown said he was sympathetic with the problem facing Senoia residents at the Rockaway-Hwy. 74 intersection, but a three-way stop is not the solution. It is legitimate and we have to do something about it, Brown said. Within the next five or six years, the problem is going to be beyond significant; it will be extreme. |
