Bad Links? | Gym South teams competing in big meetsThe Gym South boys team recently competed at the state championships in Roswell. Jeremy Adams and Brandon Akins were both state champions and regional qualifiers. The Gym South team qualified 13 athletes for the regional competition. Regional qualifiers in Level 10, 14-16 were AJ Thompson, finishing second on parallel bars and third on vault and all around. Regional qualifiers in Level 10, 14-15 were Jeremy Adams, finishing first in floor, pommel horse and all around; Brian Smith, fifth on H-bars and seventh on parallel bars and all around; Bryan Gibbs, fourth on floor, fifth in rings and eighth all around and Jake McPherson, sixth on pommel horse and 12th all around. Regional qualifiers in Level 9, 12-13, were Lee Wilkerson, first in rings and second in pommel horse and all around and Jared Breeden, second in H-bar, third in rings and vault and fifth all around. In Level 8, 14+, Brandon Akins finished first in floor, pommel horse, rings, H-bar and all around, while Chris Nelms finished second in pommel horse, H-bar and all around. Bryan Newman qualified in Level 7, 12+, placing third in pommel horse, fifth in parallel bars and fifth all around, while regional qualifiers in level 6, 8-9, were Chas Van De Motter, placing second in H-bar, fourth in pommel horse and fifth all around and Jason Smith, taking fifth in parallel bars and H-bar and seventh all around. Travis Armstrong was a regional qualifier in Level 6, 10-11, finishing sixth in H-bar, ninth in vault and 13th in all around, while Malek Bowe qualified in Level 5, 7-9, placing 12th in pommel horse, 13th in H-bar and 16th all around. Others with good finishes were Jacob Todd, Level 5, 7-9, 16th in pommel horse and 32nd all around; Phillip Frazier, Level 4, 6-7, third in floor and fifth in pommel horse and all around; Colin Dillon, Level 4, 8-9, seventh in pommel horse, ninth in parallel bars and 13th all around and Christian Salvanera, Level 4, 8-9, 11th in parallel bars and 22nd all around. The Gym South level 2 and 3 girls recently competed at the Beach Blast Invitational in Douglasville. The level 3's won first place with a score of 113.05, their highest team score this year. They competed against 11 teams from around the state. Aliyah Reeves, placed fifth on Vault & AA, second on bars, and fourth on floor. Mackenzie Carlson placed third on beam and won vault, bars, Floor, and AA with a 37.95. De-ja Carter-Jackson placed second on bars, beam, and AA, and third on floor. Hannah Hancock placed first on beam, second on floor, and fourth AA. Emerald Hoe placed first on vault, and AA, third on bars, and fourth on floor and sixth on beam. Sarah McCullough placed second on vault, and floor, and sixth on beam & AA. Ansley McDaniel placed sixth on vault, second on bars, third on AA and first on beam. The level 2's placed fourth as a team. Katie Smith placed fourth on vault, fifth on bars, first on floor and third in AA. Tyler Hicks placed first on vault, beam and AA and second on the floor. Tsali Nidey placed third on beam, fifth on floor and ninth AA. Anaia Hood, placed second on beam ninth on vault and AA. Aspen Nidey placed sixth on beam, Rachel Llewellyn placed seventh on beam and fifth on floor. Ashley Bailey placed fifth on vault, seventh on floor and ninth in AA. Brenna Elliott placed 15th AA.AA. Anaia Hood, placed second on beam ninth on vault and AA. Aspen Nidey placed sixth on beam, Rachel Llewellyn placed seventh on beam and fifth on floor.
