Bad Links? | Patriots fall short, others pick up region winsBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The scoreboard at Sandy Creek High School was on the blink on Monday but the 8-5 score, and all five of Lithia Springs first inning runs, still counted. Brandon Swann got the start for the Patriots and made some nice pitches but the Lions capitalized on several mistakes, blasting a two run home run and hitting two doubles that scored three runs. Brandon Lamb came on in relief in the first inning and got the final out with a strikeout. He would retire seven consecutive batters and earn two more strikeouts. Sandy Creek got their first runs of the game in the fourth inning when Chris Vasquez hit an RBI single and Mark Harris followed with an RBI single of his own. The score remained 5-2 until the sixth inning when Lithia Springs drove in two more runs with an RBI triple. They woud add one more run in the seventh before Sandy Creek began mounting a comeback. Brent Brewer opened the inning with a double and Kal Cudsik drew a walk. Tyler Betsill drove in Brewer with a double and Cudsik scored on a single from Robert Jaracz. Vasquez would another RBI to his totals for the day with a sacrifice fly but that would be all the runs Sandy Creek would muster on the day. It was a good ball game, said Coach Eddy Householder. We walked a couple and gave them some opportunities and their hits were just a little more timely than ours were. Householder gave credit to Vasquez for continuing to hit the ball well and praised the pitching efforts of Lamb. He did a great job coming in, Householder said. Hes pitched well the last few times but this may be the best hes looked all year.
