Bad Links? | Best Buy eyes PTC locationBy JOHN MUNFORD Peachtree Citys west side may soon be getting a Best Buy electronics store and an Applebees restaurant. Both proposed developments will be discussed at a workshop at the April 25 meeting of the Peachtree City Planning Commission, officials said. The Best Buy would be located near the former site of the Line Creek Baptist Church, but off the roadway, said City Planner David Rast. Several shops are proposed to be built between the roadway and the Best Buy, he added. RAM Development, which owns the property, wants to create a secondary road to serve the property that would link at the intersection of Ga. Highway 54 and Huddleston Road, Rast noted. The proposed Best Buy store would be 29,388 square feet in size, smaller than the Best Buy in the Fayette Pavilion in Fayetteville, which is 45,000 square feet. No official development application has been made yet on the property, however, which is owned by RAM Development. Peachtree City limits its maximum store size to 32,000 square feet on land zoned general commercial, thanks to its Big Box ordinance, approved in 2001. The proposed Applebees would be located off Hwy. 54 just west of MacDuff Parkway with a 5,512 square-foot restaurant on a 1.47 acre site. The application filed for Applebees indicates the restaurant will have 178 seats. Applebees has tried before to build in Peachtree City. During the administration of Mayor Bob Lenox, the company sought to locate in West Park, but scuttled plans because the city wouldnt go along with the restaurants plans to cut many trees between the eatery and the roadway. |
