Bad Links? | Federal grant OKd for PTC condos By JOHN MUNFORD The Georgia Office of Homeland Security is providing a $167,000 grant to fix drainage problems at the Tinsley Mill Village condominium complex in Peachtree City. The project includes development of a detention pond and upgrades of the culverts that carry stormwater in the area, officials said. The 25 percent matching grant, totaling more than $55,000, will be paid by the Tinsley Mill Homeowners Association. The drainage project is part of the Georgia Emergency Management Agencys hazard mitigation program to reduce the long-term risk to human life and property. Officials estimate the project will prevent at the least $1.01 million in damages over the 30-year life of the work. After experiencing repetitive flooding conditions, this drainage solution is welcome news for residents in the Tinsley Mill Village complex, said Mike Sherberger, director of the Office of Homeland Security and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. Local officials are to be commended for their efforts to take advantage of this pre-disaster mitigation competitive grant funding to protect both lives and property. |
