Holy Trinitys Dia de la Familia fair a big successOrganizers of the recent Dia de la Familia health fair are proclaiming it a huge success with attendance records far surpassing those in the past. The third annual fair was held March 19 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City. Our first fair, in 2003, was attended by about 350 people, said Marta McGlade, spokesperson for the group of organizers. In 2004, 800 people showed up for free screenings, and this year was the topper, with over 1,000 participants. People began to arrive at 7 a.m., McGlade said, taking a number to have blood work done in order to have diabetes, cholesterol and even prostate cancer monitored. The Colgate-Palmolive Dental Bus arrived, and doctors Warren Rivera and Barry Marcum, parishioners, performed dental screenings on about 100 children. The Fayette County Health Department was present doing breast, hearing and vision exams. Dr. David Barnes, and nurses Peggy Berry, Lori Langbehn and Kathy Flemanti, all parishioners of Holy Trinity, worked closely with the Fayette County Health Department. Long lines formed for the spinal cord examinations. Representatives were on handfrom various entities giving information on low cost clinics, mental health, cancer survivor tips, English as a Second Language, and others topics of interest. We are very grateful to the many parishioners who so graciously donated their time in the capacity of translator, McGlade said. We thank God for the wonderful success of this years health fair, and gladly anticipate an even better turn out next year. |
