Bad Links? | Tigers beat Shaw, fall to Parkview for first lossBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The Fayette County Tigers are now 12-1 after defeating Shaw 8-3 on Monday and falling to the Parkview Panthers on Wednesday 4-2. Against Shaw in Columbus on Monday, the Tigers collected eight runs on 12 hits to provide pitcher Drew Ward with enough offense to earn his fourth win of the season. It was Wards third consecutive complete game and he also generated three of Fayettes 10 hits in the game. The offense started in the first inning with David Owens scoring on an error. After three straight singles by Brent Moss, Ward and Hunter Rozakos and a sac fly from Ricky Williams, the Tigers were up 3-0. Fayette County added three more runs in the fifth inning with Moss scoring on a suicide bunt from Rozakos. RiChard Davis hit a two out triple to score Rozakos and push the lead to 6-1. Moss and Ward each drove in a run in the sixth inning to make the final score 8-3. Ward threw a gem, throwing 73 pitches and having 51 of them land for strikes. On Wednesday, Davis hit a two run home run in the fifth innig to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Parkview tied it up at the bottom of the inning and then added two more in the sixth for the win. Phillip Robinson pitched a complete game for Fayette County, allowing only five hits. They will host North Gwinnett at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. In other local baseball action, the McIntosh Chiefs picked up their first region win of the season by shutting out Whitewater 10-0 in six innings. Nolan Ivey pitched a gem, striking out 11 batters and only allowing two hits in the game. The Chiefs defense, which was shaky in a loss to Sandy Creek on Monday, committed no errors in Thursdays win. Ivey also helped himself out by hitting a three run home run and walking in his last at bat, which scored the Chiefs 10th and final run. Dustin Hirschfeld hit a home run in the first inning to start the scoring for McIntosh and Cameron Wallis and Andrew Metzger drove in runs in the third. Brendan Hall and Trevor Pippin also drove in runs in the win. The Chiefs will host Northgate on Monday while Whitewater will play at Woodward Academy. They will host Sandy Creek at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. |
