What do you think of this story? Bad Links? | Fayette Library salutes womenMarch is National Womens History Month
The Fayette County Public Library is pleased to announce its 2005 commemoration of National Womens History Month. Now in its seventh year of celebrating the event, the library is sponsoring a program, which includes live entertainment, an art exhibit, and a womans multi-cultural panel discussion. Sankofa, a 35-year-old local artist, kicked off the month-long celebration with an art exhibit, which will remain on display at the library until March 31. Sankofa, whose given name is Latran Coleman, is the daughter of the distinguished author Evelyn Coleman. Sankofas talents are not limited to the canvas. She will also be a featured performer during the program. The panel discussion is designed to provide women from a variety of cultural backgrounds to voice their opinions on the topic. What challenges have you had to gain independence? The panelists are: Bhawana Dayabhai, Leslyn Clarke-Pierre, Jo Rusin, Christa Fox, Eidah Husein, Chris Snell, and Marketa Sudek. The panel discussion will be led by Marketa Sudek. Ms. Sudek, a literature teacher from the Czech Republic, settled in California in 1997. She moved to Fayette County in 2000. This versatile woman has recognition in Fayette County and surrounding communities by demonstrating her talents as a dancer, artist and jewelry maker. The library director, Chris Snell states, Women have come a long way and have shown that whether they are inside or out of the house, they are a powerful presence. Ms. Snells statement in this regard is in direct correlation to this years theme, A Salute to National Womens History: Change, Challenge, and Conquest. The panel discussion begins promptly at 10 a.m. The library is located at 1821 Heritage Park Way, Fayetteville, GA.
