Bad Links? | Two injured in 3-car crashBy LEE WILLIAMS One patient was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital and one person was transported to a local hospital after a three-car collision near Kedron Shopping Center at Ga. Highway 74 and Peachtree Parkway. Peachtree City Fire and Rescue Department personnel and Peachtree City police responded to the three-car pile-up at 2:20 p.m. March 12. Firefighters and EMS checked all the patients for injuries, Peachtree City Fire Departments Assistant Fire Chief Ed Eiswerth said. Based on the extent of the injuries, one patient was airlifted by Rescue Air One, he said. Another patient was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital. A third patient refused treatment and hospital transport, he said. Eiswerth added the area might pose challenges to motorists because it is a four-lane intersection. However, he indicated he would not characterize the intersection as a magnet for serious accidents. According to Peachtree City police reports, one driver was attempting to cross the intersection of Hwy. 74 from Crabapple Lane when she was struck in the front passengers side area by a second driver traveling north on Hwy. 74. After the initial collision, the second driver struck the front of a third motorists vehicle. The third driver had stopped on Peachtree Parkway and was preparing to enter the intersection, authorities said. The north and southbound lanes on Hwy. 74 had a yellow flashing light. Crabapple Lane and Peachtree Parkway had a red flashing light. Driver No. 1 stated she entered the intersection and saw driver No. 2 coming, but she thought driver No. 2 was going to stop, police said. Driver No. 2 slowed down, but continued into the intersection where the collision occurred. The first driver sustained a scratch to her foot. The second driver was transported by medical helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with complaints of head and chest pain. The third motorist was transported by ambulance to Piedmont Fayette Hospital with a complaint of back pain. The first driver was cited for failure to obey a traffic a control device, police said. In addition, the Georgia Department of Transportation personnel were notified via Fayette County 911 dispatch about the flashing lights at 1:35 p.m. Lee Williams |
