Bad Links? | Season rolls along with local teams picking up big winsThe Starrs Mill boys and girls soccer teams hosted Heritage on Tuesday night and won big. The boys won 5-1 with Nick Bugara, Wes Kent, Corey Cross, Kyle Nowicki and Brian Smith scoring the goals. Hanie had two assists, while Cross and Kent each had one. Smiths goal was on a free kick. The Lady Panthers won 9-0 with Lucy Martin netting a hat trick (three goals), Katie Jacobsen chipping in two goals and Sarah Burke, Emily Stevens, Gina Goforth and Kelley OHara each adding a goal. Burke, Stevens, OHara and Martin also had an assist a piece in the win, while Viktoria Frost had two assists and Tannah Castro adding three. Goalkeeper Katelynn Morgan made four saves in the win to get her seventh shutout of the season. Starrs Mill will play at East Coweta on Tuesday with games at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Fayette County faced Mundys Mill in their first 4-AAAAA match of the season. The Lady Tigers won 10-0 and got a hat trick from Chelsy Yarbrough and two goals from Erin Zaworski and Allie Peterson. Peterson also had two assists in the win. Scoring a goal a piece in the victory were Christine Magee, Mehan Spalviero and Alex Bennett. Jenny Ross had three assists in the game and Kira Cooper added one. "The team played well and our passing and overall teamplay has really improved. I have been really pleased with how the team has responded. We have to keep that up and play together," said Coach Thacker. The boys won 11-0 with Aleksejs Baranovs scoring four goals and adding two assists and Ryan Whitehead nabbing a hat trick of both goals and assists. The Tigers otushot Mundys Mill 57-2 and got more goals from Ryan Edwards (2), Dee Anachebe and Mark Torre. Mark Francissen, Nasar Onyeuku and Torre also had assists in the win. We are passing well and playing better as a team. We have to keep up the intensity to play and be successful in our region," said Coach Thacker after Tuesday's victory. Fayette County will play at East Coweta tonight at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. and will host Newnan on Tuesday at 5:30 and 7:45 p.m. McIntoshs girls will will play at the Jekyll Island Invitational this weekend. The Lady Chiefs will play St. Pius today at 5 p.m. and will play Walton tomorrow at 2 p.m. Next week, they will play in the Westminster tournament. On Tuesday, they will take on their AAAA rivals and possible opponent in the state finals, Marist, at 5:30 p.m. They will play Blessed Trinity at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Whitewater at home on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Westminster at Westminster on Saturday at 3 p.m. The boys will play at Lassiter tonight at 8 p.m. and will host Lovett on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.), Whitewater on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and LaGrange on Saturday (TBA) in the Jeff Ford Classic next week. |
