Bad Links? | New fire stations set to take forefront in PTC retreat agendaBy JOHN MUNFORD From possible new fire stations to the eradication of kudzu vines, the Peachtree City Council will hear a little bit of everything at its annual retreat starting Friday at 8 a.m. at the citys tennis center. The discussion on fire stations will include a recommendation from Fire Chief Stony Lohr on improving the service provided to the southern area of the city, along with portions of Kedron Village and the eastern portion of the Smokerise subdivision, according to a memo provided to council. Lohr suggests building another station on the southside for 2008 that would cover the industrial park, the sports complexes and Falcon Field Airport. Land acquisition could occur during the 2006-2007 fiscal year, officials indicated. Other improvements suggested by Lohr include a possible fire station for the west side of Peachtree City in 2010 and the possible relocation of Station 84, which is currently on Crabapple Lane, to provide access to the northern portion of the West Village, if developed, and improve coverage for Kedron Elementary and for the general area served by the station, officials indicated. The current fire station could be sold to offset the cost of the new fire station, officials suggest. Also on tap are discussions of the citys comprehensive plan, transportation plan, multi-use path plan and the priority list of projects to be funded by the countywide transportation sales tax. For the latter, the city will get an estimated $12 million, with money starting to flow perhaps in July. The retreat meetings are open to the public. Fridays morning session begins at 8. The afternoon session picks up from 1:15 to 4:05. The Saturday morning session will last from 8 to 11:35 . Background information on the meeting is available for download on the citys web site: www.peachtree-city.org. |
