Bad Links? | WASA, airport to cooperate on roadBy JOHN MUNFORD The rest of Aviation Way, an access road leading from hangars at the southern tip of Falcon Field back to a sewer plant operated by Peachtree Citys Water and Sewer Authority, will be paved in the near future. WASA and the Airport Authority have agreed to split the estimated cost 50-50 for a total commitment of $150,000 each, Airport Manager John Crosby noted at Wednesday nights Airport Authority meeting. The road will be built to city standards, and WASA will manage the project this time. When the first part of Aviation Way was paved last year, the airport was in charge of the project. Paving the rest of the road will ultimately benefit the authority, too, as it will provide access to a currently land-locked parcel the authority recently purchased for future development. WASA will be glad to have any input from the authority as it begins seeking bids for the project, Crosby noted. The authority voted to enter an intergovernmental agreement with WASA on the matter. The money will come from the $194,000 surplus from two major projects that came well under budget, Crosby noted: the first phase of paving Aviation Way and roof repairs to the airport. In other business, the authority voted to allocate $6,500 to purchase three new computers that are quite dated. No vendor has been selected yet, but the purchase will include a new server and computers for the airport manager and airport assistant manager. The airport has one other PC that will only have its software upgraded because it was purchased roughly a year ago. The other computers have been used for about seven years, officials noted. Crosby noted that one of the most important aspects of what the authority needs is service, ideally from a local company. Although some bids have been received and it looks like about $6,500 will be needed, at least one more local company has been asked to provide a bid for the computers, and the issue is not one needing an immediate decision, Crosby noted.
