Bad Links? | Ruth Hill Elem. getting a makeoverBy JOHN THOMPSON For years, Ruth Hill Elementary School has been almost the forgotten child of the Coweta County School System. As growth has engulfed the eastern side of Coweta County and shiny new schools were built, Newnans Ruth Hill managed with what it had, and received a few upgrades during its long history. But Tuesday night, the Coweta County board of Education decided it was time to renovate the nearly 50-year-old school and moved the $3.7 million renovation to the top of its construction priority list. One possible option for funding the renovation, said board member Mike Sumner, would be using excess funds in the current SPLOST. If funds are not currently available, Sumner would favor the renovation being placed at the top of a new SPLOST initiative. Construction at the school could begin this July and would last approximately one year. Included in the renovation would be a new kitchen and cafeteria, 20 classrooms, new ceiling, flooring and carpeting. The school system is also asking the city of Newnan to donate two acres of land next to the school, so a new entryway could be built to alleviate traffic problems at the school. |
