Bad Links? | Cancer survivors now being sought for Relay for Life eventThe American Cancer Society - Fayette County is searching for local cancer survivors who would like to participate in this years Relay for Life and Survivor Dinner. Relay for Life is an annual fundraiser, and the signature event of the American Cancer Society. The purpose of the rally is to raise money to fund research and development towards patient treatment and finding a cure for cancer. Teams of 10-15 people join together to raise money through pledges, or selling merchandise or food during the night-long walking event. Relay for Life is also about honoring local residents who have survived cancer and celebrating life with them. Cancer survivors are treated as honored guest at Relay for Life and are the guest of honor at a Survivor's Dinner which is sponsored by Piedmont Fayette Hospital Medical Center and held prior to the Relay. This years Survivor Dinner will be Sunday, May 1, at the Wyndham Peachtree Hotel and Conference Center. Each survivor who registers prior to the event will receive an invitation to dinner for themselves, a spouse, guest or caregiver. The Survivor dinner is a unique opportunity for cancer survivors to meet each other, find common ground with others who have shared their battle and an opportunity for everyone in attendance to celebrate the return to good health and the hope for a healthy future. Guests at the Survivors dinner will receive a wonderful meal, their Survivor t-shirt to be worn at the Relay, and are eligible for door prizes which celebrate milestones like; Oldest Survivor, Longest Survivor, Newest Survivor, Youngest Survivor, etc. Survivors who participate in the Relay for Life have the honor and choice of walking in a torch relay from the Fayetteville Courthouse to the Relay for Life event at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds. Survivors also walk the first lap of the Relay and are joined for the second lap by their caregivers. Relay For Life - Fayette County will be Friday, May 6, at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds in Fayetteville. If you are a survivor who would like to participate in Relay for Life and attend the Survivors Dinner or if you are interested in starting or joining a Relay for Life team, contact Sheri Waynick, American Cancer Society - Fayette County, Community Income Manager, at 770-460-8920. |
