Gary Farr of the Fayette County Sheriffs Office completed a Conducting Highway Safety Checkpoints course taught by the Georgia Police Academy Division of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth. The 10-year veteran is a supervisor in the Fayette County Sheriffs Department Traffic Enforcement Division. This course gives students the knowledge to conduct checkpoints in accordance with Georgia law as well as offering best practice suggestions to ensure officer safety. Students are also given instruction on interview techniques, indicators of deception and current DUI case law. Funding for this program has been provided by the State of Georgia Governors Office of Highway Safety. The Georgia Public Safety Training Center provides this training and other programs for local and state certified public safety officers at no cost to the local community for tuition, meals or lodging.e of Georgia Governors Office of Highway Safety. |
