Bad Links? | 2 hurt in truck crashBy LEE WILLIAMS Two Palmetto men were injured in a one-vehicle collision on Tyrone Road about 4:30 p.m. Monday when the driver lost control of his pickup truck, split a utility pole and plunged into a tree. Larry E. Rubrig, 56, the driver of white 1991 Dodge 1500 pickup, and his passenger, Kirk Rubrig, were traveling north on Tyrone Road near Dogwood Trail when the accident occurred. As he was traveling north on Tyrone Road, he came upon an unknown vehicle which was stopped waiting to turn left onto Dogwood Trail, said Lt. Col. Wayne Hannah, director of the Fayette County Sheriff Department Traffic Enforcement Division. Mr. Rubrig was unable to stop, so he veered to the right, left the roadway and struck a tree and utility pole. The impact of the collision forced the hood of the large white pickup to fold back like an accordian. A utility pole was reportedly severed in the ordeal, however it did not cause any power outages in the area, said Mary Ann Bell, public relations director for Coweta-Fayette EMC. Traffic on the two-lane road inched forward as Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel and Fayette County sheriffs deputies worked to clear the wreckage and render aid to the victims. Mr. Rubrig, along with a passenger ... were transported by Fayette County Emergency Services to Southern Regional Hospital with visible injuries, Hannah said. It was unclear at press time if speed was a factor in the accident, whether the occupants were wearing seat belts, and if any citations were issued. |
