Bad Links? | Fire guts $220,000 homeBy LEE WILLIAMS An electrical problem is what fire officials say started a blaze that destroyed a two-story home in the Tunis Trace subdivision. No one was injured in the fire that broke out at 5:07 a.m. Feb. 24, but a wife, husband and three children were forced to find another place to stay after the blaze gutted the home located in the southeastern portion of Fayette County off of Inman Road. Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel and Fayetteville firefighters responded to the home of Roxanne and Gary Blessitt, 240 Marron Road, six minutes after receiving a call and found fire pouring from the rear, county fire spokesman Capt. Pete Nelms said. The investigators have determined it is electrical in nature, Nelms said. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the fire that caused more than $220,000 in damage. The family was at home at the time, Nelms said. American Red Cross was called in to assist them with personal belongings and lodging. Many of the Blessitts belongings were devoured. However, the family managed to salvage a few items. They were able to get a washer and dryer out and thats all they were able to get, relative Mary Lea Blessitt said. They lost everything. The family had little time to react once the blaze started. One child was forced to evacuate the home wearing little more than her undergarments, Blessitt added. She said the family is staying with another relative until they find a rental home. The charred home on Marron Road, which was insured, will likely be gutted and a new home will be built in its place, she added. The Blessitts home was built from the ground up, she added. |
