Bad Links? | Season over too early for Lady Patriot hoopstersBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The season ended too early for the Sandy Creek Lady Patriots varsity girls basketball team (25-4). They had made the sweet sixteen of the AAAA playoffs and a 54-35 loss to Northside - Warner Robins kept them from advancing further. We didnt play very well, said Coach Jim Waller. We hit the wall and they were too tough for us. Sandy Creek shot poorly, made 29 turnovers and didnt contain what was a fairly explosive offense from Northside. Though the game was tied at the half, Northside - Warner Robins took over in the third quarter and maintained a sizable lead. Tracey Paschal was Sandy Creeks leading scorer with 16 points. The girls ended the season with seven more wins than any other girls basketball team in school history. They won the first region title for a girls basketball team in the schools history and made it farther than any Lady Patriot basketball team had made it in the state tournament. The Lady Patriots will graduate three players from this years team; Tracey Paschal, Alyssa Ruff and Tifani Booker. This season was also remarkable in that a number of underclassmen got significant playing time during the season and playoffs, giving them some good experience and preparation for next year. When you put it in perspective, it was the best weve ever done, said Waller, though he and the team both wish it had been four wins better. |
