Bad Links? | Booth club receives Points of Light AwardThe Beta Club at J.C. Booth Middle has been selected as a Daily Points of Light winner by the Points of Light Foundation, which celebrates success of volunteers and spotlights the impact that various groups, businesses and families have made on their communities. The daily recognition honors individuals and volunteer groups that have made a commitment to connect Americans through service to help meet critical needs in their community. Each weekday one volunteer or group receives a Daily Points of Light award. Beta Club members at Booth received their award Feb. 24. The club has accumulated more than 1,550 service hours in the 2003-2004 school year. Annually, the club holds drives to support the Fayette Council on Domestic Abuse, the Fayette Samaritans Food Bank, Southland Nursing Home and the Downtown Night Shelter. Beta members also work as peer tutors at Booths Saturday School program as well as help teachers and the schools PTO with a myriad of tasks. In addition to the Points of Light award, Presidential Student Service Awards have been given to 16 members and school-based awards for outstanding efforts in volunteerism and service have been presented to 17 members.
