Bad Links? | Traffic signal heralding more developmentBy BEN NELMS Approved and installed for the now-defunct Ingles project on Ga. Highway 54, the traffic light at Oak Street emerged from its cover last week and is set to come into full service Tuesday. In its wake later this year will come the beginnings of other business ventures along the entrance of Brandywine Extension . The traffic light had been approved by Georgia Dept. of Transportation in conjunction with the construction of the 65,000 square-foot Ingles supermarket and other businesses along Brandywine Extension, said Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Director Jahnee Prince. Though the Ingles project did not go through, the portion of the property bordering Ga. Highway 54 on the west side of Brandywine, situated on approximately 1.8 acres, is now slated for a 17,500 square-foot retail center, according to Harrington & Associates owner George Harrington. Projected to be ready for occupancy in July, Harrington said his firm is currently speaking with prospects to occupy the multi-tenant retail property. One of the two parcels facing Ga. Highway 54 on the east side of Brandywine Extension will be the site of a Southern Community Bank building, Prince said. Plans have been approved for the 29,000 square-foot, two-story structure though there is no current permit to begin construction. The building will be situated on 2.69 acres. The property being developed along Brandywine Extension is zoned C-3 (Highway Commercial). |
