Bad Links? | Sandy Creek hoops teams seeking a shot at the final fourBy MICHAEL BOYLAN The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots are enjoying their best season in school history. Today, at 4 p.m., they will meet Northside, Warner Robins for a chance to advance to the Elite Eight. Sandy Creek (22-2) hasnt lost since Jan. 15 when they fell to Fayette County 34-31. Since that game the Lady Patriots have averaged over 56 points per game. In the region championship against a tough Haralson County team, Sandy Creek mounted an impressive comeback and slowed down two of the more athletic players in AAAA. Last Friday, the Lady Patriots started play in the state tournament on the right foot. They went on a large run to start the game, thanks to great defensive pressure. Everyone on the team is contributing to their success and if their great team play continues, the sky is the limit. Northside, Warner Robins is an athletic team that has no problem scoring. They have only been held below 50 points twice this season and both times were losses; once to Perry and once to Warner Robins. If Sandy Creek can mount good defense once again, they should advance to the Elite Eight on Saturday. The winner of this game will face the winner of Jones County and Warner Robins at 7 p.m. on Saturday. The Sandy Creek boys played Bainbridge last night after the paper went to press. If they won, they will face the winner of Northside, Warner Robins and Baldwin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. These games are all taking place at the Columbus Civic Center. To get to the Columbus Civic Center, take I-85 South to I-185 South to exit 1 Victory Drive. Turn right at end of ramp. Continue on Victory Drive. Columbus Civic Center is on the left at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Victory Drive. |
