Bad Links? | Fulton County residents outside of Atlanta are asked to report any incidence of companies overcharging sales taxIt has come to the attention of the Board of Commissioners that some businesses outside of Atlanta are incorrectly charging their customers 8 percent sales tax instead of 7 percent for purchases made through the Internet. Customers who make a purchase outside of Atlanta and are charged an 8 percent sales tax should call the Georgia Department of Revenue, Atlanta Regional Office, at 404-968-0480. The city of Atlanta recently instituted an 8 percent sales tax, but the rate in all other areas of Fulton County is 7 percent. Georgia businesses sales tax revenues are collected by the State Department of Revenue, which then distributes the money to various government agencies. Fulton County receives 35 percent of revenue collected from the 1 percent local option sales tax. |
