Bad Links? | Senior apartment complex canned by developerBy JOHN MUNFORD A developer has shelved plans to build an upscale senior apartment complex in south Peachtree City, officials said. The project was to be located at the intersection of south Peachtree Parkway and Crosstown Road, and the city created a special authority that could issue tax-exempt bonds to help finance the project. Last week, the Residential Care for the Elderly Authority, formed in 2001, was officially dissolved by the City Council. The parcel is zoned for multifamily use and is one of the last undeveloped parcels in that particular category. The developer for the site indicated the project was no longer in the works, Administrative Services Director Jane Miller told council last week. The original plan called for the 144-unit complex to have a 24-hour on-site emergency medical response team, a cafeteria and additional programming aimed specifically at senior citizens. Developers envisioned seniors wanting to sell their homes here while still living in Peachtree City and using the citys golf cart path for transportation. The concept plan for the apartment building was originally approved by the Planning Commission in January 2001. |
