Bad Links? | Sports complex getting emergency warning systemBy JOHN MUNFORD Fayette Countys emergency warning system, used to broadcast alerts when severe weather is imminent, will soon be covering the South 74 Baseball and Soccer Complex off Ga. Highway 74 in Peachtree City. The broadcast equipment allows for special verbal announcements to be aired when necessary, with the warning tone and broadcast reaching one to one and a half miles in all directions at the same time, officials said. The equipment will be installed on a 50-foot pole placed near the new north entrance to the complex, and it will not interfere with any sports or maintenance activities on the field. The installation fee, estimated at between $300-$500, and the monthly electrical fee of about $10 a month will come out of the citys recreation budget. The first phase of the warning system was designed to warn manufactured housing communities, while the second phase is to cover public venues such as recreation facilities, officials said. |
