Bad Links? | Runaway to face charges after van wreckBy LEE WILLIAMS A 14-year-old runaway who allegedly stole her parents van and slammed head-on into another motorist injuring a woman passenger faces a laundry list of charges in connection with the crime. The Peachtree City teen, whose name is being withheld because she is a minor, faces charges of driving while unlicensed, reckless conduct, unruly child, theft by taking a motor vehicle, driving left of center and driving without headlights, PCPD Maj. Mike Dupree said Tuesday. According to police reports, the female teen allegedly took off in her parents white Dodge Grand Caravan about 12:45 a.m. Feb. 5. without their permission after running away from home. The teen was traveling north on Ga. Highway 74 when she crossed the centerline and struck a red 2001 Nissan Quest. Joseph Vincent, 39, of 105 Beacon Drive, Fayetteville, was behind the wheel of the Quest. He was traveling south at the time of the collision. Vincent swerved to the left to avoid the crash, which occurred near Holly Grove Road in front of the Publix-anchored shopping center. The two vehicles collided head-on, police said. Both Vincent and his passenger, 56-year-old Alice Esthappan, who lived with Vincent, were injured in the crash. Esthappan was critically injured. Rescue Air One medical helicopter transported Esthappan to Atlanta Medical Center, police said. EMS transported Vincent to Piedmont Fayette Hospital. The teen was not hurt. An update on the patients condition was unavailable due to federal patient health privacy laws. |
