Bad Links? | County is boomingBy JOHN THOMPSON If you look around the highways and byways of Coweta County, you realize the county is in the middle of a massive growth spurt. From the traffic-clogged streets of Newnan to Senoia and points in between, growth seems to be the biggest issue that residents will have to deal with for years. During the annual state of the county speech to the Newnan Rotarians, county officials outlined some of the highlights of the last year. Some of the notable accomplishments and statistics included: More than 600 development permits were granted in 2004, while residents used more than 1.7 billion gallons of water. Emergency officials responded to 118,439 calls in 2004 and 350 events were staged at the countys fairgrounds and conference center. Plans moved forward towards building a new library on Lower Fayetteville Road. The 25,000 sq.ft building is on a 30-acre site that will also feature a new health center, gymnasium and playing fields. The library is being funded with $6 million in SPLOST funds and a $2 million grant from the state. Work progressed on a new Georgia State Patrol headquarters on Turkey Creek Road. The post is also being paid for with SPLOST funds. A new fire station opened next to Western School. The station replaces an older one and was funded with $450,000 from SPLOST funds. Construction began on the B.T. Brown Reservoir. The project is slated for completion in 2006 and will add another water resource for the county.
