Fayette escapes damage from thunderstorms

The thunderstorm that rolled through Fayette late Monday night produced little in the way of damage, but it sure put a punctuation mark on the beginning of Georgia’s Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The only storm-related incident was reported in unincorporated Fayette County when a lightning strike caught two baled rolls of hay on fire at 366 Ellison Rd., said Capt. Pete Nelms of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

Peachtree City and Fayetteville reported no storm-related calls whatsoever, officials said, agreeing that the area was fortunate given the dangerous potential of the storm.t a punctuation mark on the beginning of Georgia’s Severe Weather Awareness Week.
