Bad Links? | Mowell breaks ground for new funeral homeBy CAROLYN CARY Funeral director C. J. Mowell, Jr., has operated a funeral home in Fayetteville since Feb. 14, 1964. Located at 180 N. Jeff Davis Drive, in a home built in 1904, it served as the funeral home and also as a home for his family on its second floor for 20 years. The loan for the new facility was closed exactly 41 years later, on Feb. 14, 2005. In the 1960s the population in Fayette County was 8,000 persons and as it grew toward the present 100,000, the funeral home was not large enough to handle multiple services at one time. Plans were drawn for a new facility to sit just in back of the current one. It will contain 22,000 square feet and will have the capacity for 7 viewing rooms. Its chapel will seat nearly 300 persons. In 1994 Mowell erected a funeral home on Robinson Road in Peachtree City. It contains 3 viewing rooms and a chapel. Upon completion of the new Jeff Davis facility, a back hallway and the chapel on the current building will be removed and current plans are to move the century-old house to another location in Fayetteville. This new facility is being built to continue to serve those that have grown up with us, and supported us over the past 40 years, said Mowell, and we look forward to serving our community for another 40 years. |
