Bad Links? | Season starts with good results for McIntosh, Starrs MillThe soccer season started Tuesday with McIntosh sweeping Sandy Creek and Starrs Mills boys playing Pope to a draw. On Wednesday, Starrs Mills girls opened with a win over Chapel Hill. The Lady Chiefs, last years AAAAA state champs, are gunning for a title in AAAA this year. Currently tied for first with Marist in preseason rankings, they opened the season with a 15-0 region win over Sandy Creek. Jessie Lenze had five goals in the match while Katie Schulz had four goals and two assists, Monica Hogan had two goals and three assists and Brittany Schneider added two goals and two assists. The boys, ranked third in a preseason poll, followed with a 6-0 win. McIntosh hosts Fayette County tonight with games starting at 5:30 p.m. Across town, Starrs Mills boys, ranked second to Brookwood in the preseason poll, tied Pope 1-1. Chrsi Capati scored the lone goal for the Panthers on an assist from Wes Kent. The girls, ranked first in a preseason poll, defeated Chapel Hill 7-0. Kelley OHara had a hat trick in both goals and assists for the Lady Panthers while Laura McCalla scored two goals and Lucy Martin had a goal and an assist. Starrs Mil will host Whitewater today with games beginning at 5 p.m. |
