Bad Links? | Rooms at The Fred, Tennis Center for rent?Foray into wedding event industry to be exploredBy JOHN MUNFORD A reception room at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater and two classrooms at the Peachtree City Tennis Center may soon be available for the public to rent. The citys Tourism Association, which operates both venues, is working on a policy to govern such rentals. The catch, association executive director Linda McCarthy noted at Wednesdays meeting, is securing insurance coverage specifically for special events. While a separate policy would be costly, McCarthy noted, the association may be able to expand its coverage under its special events policy for events at the amphitheater. Currently, the classroom space is used chiefly by Clayton State University at no cost through a special arrangement with the city. Murray Weed, the Tourism Associations chairman, said that deal wont change because of its tremendous benefit to the city. The association needs to pursue the revenue from possible facility rentals in the effort to have the facilities break even, Weed said. Hed like to see the association market the venues in the wedding planning industry, and association member Bernie McMullen noted it might be possible for the indoor tennis courts to be used for such events. Weed asked if that could be done without damaging the courts. McCarthy said she would look into that possibility, but obviously the members come first, she added, referring to tennis center members who expect to use the indoor court facility. McCarthy proposed some initial rental prices for the facilities, but the authority took no formal action. In other business, the authority approved new logos for the amphitheater and the association. The tennis centers current logo will be kept since it fits in with the newer logos, McCarthy said. |
