Students win medals at American Open

Students from Tiger Martial Arts in Fayetteville won 13 gold medals at last year’s American Open Tae Kwon Do Championships. At this year’s meet they won 22 gold, towards a total of 44 medals. The school had 22 students between the ages of 5-21 competing in both forms and sparring against athletes from all over the Southeast. According to student Eli Presberg, forms are judged by how sharp and powerful a routine of 18-20 moves are performed, while sparring is scored by points.

The following students were awarded emdals in each category: Carson Todd, silver in forms, gold in sparring; Alyssa Jordan, gold in sparring; Kyle Pinkston, gold in forms, gold in sparring; Emma Presberg, silver in forms, gold in sparring; Christian Martins, silver in forms, gold in sparring; Briana Miller, gold in forms, gold in sparring; Ronald Purifoy, silver in forms, silver in sparring; Chris Martin, silver in forms, silver in sparring, Immanuel Larry, gold in forms, gold in sparring; Wesley Reed, silver in forms, silver in sparring; Felix Ramon, gold in forms, gold in sparring; Gabriel Absi, bronze in forms, bronze in sparring; William Edwards, bronze in forms, silver in sparring; Eli Presberg, gold in forms, gold in sparring; Arthur Chapman, gold in forms, gold in sparring; Mandel Jones, bronze in forms, gold in sparring; David Collins, gold in forms, gold in sparring; Torre Washington, silver in forms, gold in sparring; Trenton Edwards, bronze in forms, bronze in sparring; Raymond Leday III, gold in forms, silver in sparring; Alladin Koja, gold in forms, silver in sparring and Savannah Jordan, gold in forms and gold in sparring.

The team is coached by Master Eid Koja, the owner of the school. He is assisted by coaches Gerald Boveland, Kim Leday, Marvin larry, Vincent Washington, Eddie Reed and Paulo Martins. The team captain is William Edwards. Tiger Martial Arts teaches students self defense, discipline and integrity.
