Bad Links? | Holy Trinity Church to offer Why Catholic? sessionsCatholics who want to deepen their understanding of the Catholic religion, those of any faith who want to do something positive for Lent, and those who want to share their faith may be interested in joining the Why Catholic? program at Holy Trinity Catholic church in Peachtree City. Why Catholic? is designed for small groups (10-12 people) meeting together to share their faith. Meetings are held in a home or in one of the parish facilities. The sessions are 90 minutes long and there are six sessions in the first season. The sessions are led by a trained facilitator. The first season begins the week of Ash Wednesday and will end the week before Holy Week, the week preceding Easter Sunday. The program is based on the Catholic Catechism. The readings in the book provide direct quotes from the Catechism, and give references to verses in the Bible from which the Catechism teachings come. The discussion questions are designed to help one see how the Catechism teachings relate to everyday life. The session also gives some ideas on positive acts one can do during the following week to even further deepen their understanding of the faith. Finally, to prepare for the next session, suggested paragraphs from the Catechism for reading are given. When I was first introduced to the Why Catholic program, I got excited about it, said Mike Trantum of Peachtree City. I often have questions about what the Church teaches about some topics. I have picked up the Catechism and thought, Wow, this is a big book! Ill never wade through all of this. And then, I put it down and think that Ill get my questions answered some other time. Of course, my questions dont really get answered that way. Then along came Why Catholic? I could see that this was a way for me to learn more about Catholicism and get to know some more of our fellow parishioners. Seems like a good idea to me. Sessions began Ash Wednesday but interested persons may still enroll. For more information, contact Holy Trinity Catholic church, 770-487-7672. |
