Bad Links? | Sandy Creek cadets help out with Veterans History ProjectThe Sandy Creek High Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) program has teamed up with the Dixie Wing of the Commemorative Air Force to document veteran stories. The effort is part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project, of which the AFJROTC has been an official youth partner since March 2003. On Jan. 28, six Sandy Creek JROTC cadets volunteered to conduct interviews and preserve history by sitting down with vets and asking them to tell their stories in their own words. The memories were recorded, and along with interview forms filled out by the students, sent to the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., where they are archived by historians. The Dixie Wing assisted in rounding up the vets and providing a facility at Falcon Field Airport in Peachtree City where the interviews could take place. The importance of the assignment wasnt lost on Sandy Creek AFJROTC Cadet Matthew Dix. This interview gave me an opportunity to meet veterans who served their country with dignity and honor, and I believe it was one of the greatest things I have done, Dix said.
