Bad Links? | Christs Church pairs with Square Foot Ministry to help local coupleChrists Church at Whitewater and Square Foot Ministry have partnered together in a building project for Jean and J.C. Ison, a deaf couple who are members of Christs Church. Jean is in a wheelchair and J.C. recently underwent knee replacement surgery, therefore, their 528 square foot home in Brooks was not suitable for their needs. The project included adding a room onto the home, as well as installing new vinyl floors, a walk-in closet, a new furnace and air conditioning unit, and other general improvements. According to Willie Lamb, Deaf Ministry director at Christs Church, the main goal of the project was to create more room for the couple to move around and function in their home. This is something I have wanted to do for a long time for a very deserving couple, said Lamb. When the Christs Church Challengers Sunday school class was discussing ideas for a class project, I made the suggestion about the Isons home. The class responded positively and was confident they could do it. Lamb then contacted Square Foot Ministry to discuss the possibility of partnering together. She and her husband, Bill, met with Doug Higgins, president of Square Foot Ministry, at the Isons home. Higgins response, she says, was Lets do it. Well talk with God, present the need to the people, and God will provide. She adds that Christs Church members donated over $11,000 toward the Ison Project. Lamb says Jean Ison looked at her home, smiled beautifully, patted herself on the chest, and stated, You build room for me. Her husband, J.C., simply shook his head and smiled; No words needed, said Lamb. Lamb remarks that she is very thankful to Doug Higgins and the Square Foot Ministry team, members of the Challengers Sunday school class, and the many other volunteers who dedicated their time and talents to this meaningful undertaking for the Isons. Square Foot Ministry is a non-profit organization of Christian men and women from local area churches who are dedicated to providing home improvements and repairs to the needy in Fayette and surrounding areas. The organization consists of men and women who are currently in the construction business or those who have construction backgrounds. |
