Bad Links? | St. Marys, Cokes Chapel plan joint serviceThe congregations of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church will join for an ecumenical service on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. The service will be held in the sanctuary of Cokes Chapel which is adjacent to the property of St. Marys on Lower Fayetteville Road. Father Daniel J. Fleming, pastor of St. Mary Magdalene., and the Rev. John Hagan, pastor of Cokes Chapel, will share the sanctuary and leadership of the service for both congregations. Choirs from both churches will join in a special music program. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the holy season of Lent which culminates on Easter Sunday, March 27. For Christians, this is a season of repentance and conversion as they prepare for the celebration of Easter and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The distribution of ashes upon the foreheads of the faithful will take place during the service. Traditionally, the ashes are obtained by the burning of the palm leaves used the previous year on Palm Sunday. Cokes Chapel church is on Lower Fayetteville Road, east of the intersection of Lower Fayetteville and Ga. Hwy. 154 (McCollum Sharpsburg Road). |
