Bad Links? | Local teams begin play in region basketball tournamentsThe Fayette County High School swim team competed in a county wide meet this past Tuesday at Washington Park in downtown Atlanta. Donating the awards for this years all county meet was Alan Vigil Ford. General Manager Nelson Camilo was on hand to award the championship trophies. The smallest team competing with only 18 swimmers, Fayette County placed third in the girls team and overall team categories (out of six teams) out-swimming Whitewater, Sandy Creek and Our Lady of Mercy. Many individuals had outstanding performances as the competition was at its best. The boys 200 yard Medley Relay team, made up of sophomore Aaron Quintern, senior Jason Gridley, freshman Sean Phillips and senior Drew Shockey placed fifth with a time of 2:03.35.The girls 200 yard Medley Relay team made up of seniors Christy Froehlich and Rachel Talley and juniors Katelyn Davis and Jordan Gore placed second with a time of 2:05.86, which re-affirmed their state qualifying status. In the girls 50 yard free, Gore finished in third place with a time of 27.50, while Davis placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 1:03.23. Talley finished third in the 100 free with a time of 59.13 and Gore and Froehlich finished fourth and seventh respectively. Talley, Michele Bangsboll, Gore and Davis finished in second place in the 200 free relay and Davis and Talley finished in second and third in a close 100 yard breast. Senior Kyle Pepples and Matt Moore, juniors Tommy Carroll, Arlene Hayes, Ryan Grant, Kaitlin McNally and Christina Leutz and sophomores Sharon Hayes and Mark Torre, earned points for the team; many obtaining best times for the season. Coach Tami Moore was extremely proud of all the swimmers especially the graduating seniors for whom this was the last meet; Pepples, Shockey, Gridley and Moore. Several Fayette County swimmers will compete at the state meet on Thursday, Feb. 10. Davis will swim in the 100 fly and 100 breast and Talley will swim in the 50 Free. Gore, Froehlich, and Bangsboll will round out the relay teams. |
