Bad Links? | Two cited in car crashBy LEE WILLIAMS Two drivers were cited in a collision that left a Jonesboro woman trapped inside of her car at the intersection of Ga. Highway 85 South and Promenade Parkway Jan. 27. Jason Tharp, 35, of 1036 Goza Road, Fayetteville, was traveling south in a blue 2002 Dodge Dakota on Hwy. 85 about 5:50 p.m. when he slammed into a silver 2000 Jaguar S Type driven by Nikki Detamore, 30, of 536 Mundys Mill Road, Jonesboro. Tharp advised he was on Ga. Hwy. 85 southbound in the inside lane, Fayetteville police spokeswoman Lt. Beverly Trainor said. He said he thought he had a green light, so he drove through the intersection of 85 and Promenade Parkway. Tharp alleged as he drove forward Detamore pulled out in front of him causing them to collide. Both vehicles sustained significant damage in the crash, Trainor indicated. Detamore gave a conflicting story, but a witness later allegedly corroborated her account, police said. Detamore was on an access road exiting the Pavilion, Trainor said. She advised she was stopped at the intersection until her light turned green. As she proceeded through the intersection, Tharp allegedly struck Detamores vehicle, police said. A witness who was traveling on Promenade Parkway said the light turned green for him and Detamores vehicle and they both drove forward, police said. He said [Tharps] vehicle ran the red light, Trainor said the witness said. Upon impact, Detamore was trapped inside of the vehicle. Fayetteville firefighters arrived to help free her, authorities said. Detamores 8-year-old male passenger was injured, but he was not trapped inside of the vehicle, police said. Detamore, who received unspecified injuries, and her passenger, were taken to Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale. Tharp, who was ruled the at-fault party, was cited for running a red light in the incident, police said. Detamore was cited for driving on a suspended or revoked license and driving on an expired tag. |
