During a sometimes-cordial, sometimes-heated exchange at lunch Friday, former Peachtree City Mayor Bob Lenox proposed a bet to current Mayor Steve Brown.
Lenox offered to provide his personal tax returns, and those of his family members, to an accountant and an attorney he and Brown agreed upon. He offered a $100,000 check to the charity of Browns choice if proof was found that he profited from his stint as mayor.
They can look them over and they can audit them to their hearts content, Lenox said. And when theyre all done, if they find I have made any money from development of land or anything related to building or development in the state of Georgia, I will give that check to the American Red Cross. Or Fayette Care Clinic, tell me who to make it out to.
The catch? If after the auditors and the attorneys go through all of my tax returns and come back to you and say, Steve, this boy didnt make a dime out of this service as mayor, then, you resign. Fair enough? Lenox asked.
