WHAT LIES ON THE OTHER SIDE ?
By Rev. Dr. Knox Herndon A dear friend and solider of the faith, Louie Boos, sent me this email. I share it with you in its entirety. A sick man turned to his doctor, as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said, Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side. Very quietly, the doctor said, I don't know. You don't know? You, a Christian man, do not know what is on the other side? The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness. Turning to the patient, the doctor said, Did you notice my dog? He's never been in this room before. He didn't know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing... I know my Master is there and that is enough. Well said Louie, well said. Earlier this week, 25 pastors from our South Metro Pastors group all went for a time of seeking the face of God in a Prayer Summit. This may not sound like something a body could do and say they enjoyed it however it was like nothing I had ever experienced. Here were men mostly all pastors or men who were part of a worship team at various churches in our South Metro area. Many denominations were represented, but we shared, one thing in common, the love of Christ as savior, and love for his kingdoms work in our churches. Strangely enough, there was not one divisive doctrine or even an argument over any issues. It was almost strange the way the love of God and His work united us in a single cause. I can remember when I first retired from the Army Chaplaincy and was looking for a place to worship and serve, there were those who consciously or unconsciously would look down their noses at those of us who had given the best years of our lives to ministering to soldiers in harms way around the world. I had people say to me When did you leave the ministry? There were those who evidently only watched M.A.S.H. on TV and thought that we never once shared Christ with anyone. As I look back at our Army Chapel experiences, it was more like heaven will be, as I understand it. In fact what I loved about an Army chapel was the fact that although we had many different denominations represented in a service on Sunday morning, all those who entered to worship, put those issues and feelings on hold for just a short time and came into the chapel to meet and worship Almighty God. There was something very special about that just like it was this past weekend. To me it was a touch of what heaven is going to be like, just like the little story of the dog and I know my master is there and that is enough. OUR NEW CHURCH IS 96% FINISHED. COME SEE!!
