Panthers take fifth in state duals, fall to McEachernThe Starrs Mill wrestling team placed fifth in the AAAAA state duals in Macon. The Panthers went 2-2 in the tournament, defeating Newton 57-35 and Lowndes 47-21 before losing to Collins Hill 50-14 and Brookwood 30-25. The Brookwood match came down to Brandon Wittas match. Witta had a lead but Brookwood scored with four seconds left in regulation to tie the match. Brookwood won the match in overtime and the win gave Brookwood the team win. The Panthers traveled to McEachern on Wednesday night and lost 41-31, giving them a dual record of 29-11 for the season. Winners for Starrs Mill were: Kevin OBrien (103), Stephen Savage (125), Brandon Witta (140), Patrick Kellerman (160), Jeff Partlow (189) and Bradley Connor (215). The Panthers have lost a number of wrestlers to injuries and administrative problems, forcing some wrestlers to wrestle in different weight classes. The team wishes teammate Matt Hartpence a speedy recovery from complications with a knee injury Starrs Mill will host the Panther Invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Teams participating are Cass, Centennial, Henry County, McIntosh, Spalding, Salem, Sandy Creek, Starr's Mill, and Westminster.
