Starrs Mill sweeps Fayette CountyIt was kind of late in the year for these two teams to be meeting for the first time this season, but it was worth the wait. Starrs Mill and Fayette County High School tangled in a region match-up on Tuesday night and the two teams from Starrs Mill emerged victorious in hard-fought contests. The Lady Panthers led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter but the Tigers fought back with good post play in the second quarter and went into the half up by one. Starrs Mills Katreesa Rollins had a huge second half, scoring on a number of easy baskets under the net and leading the charge in rebounding. The Lady Panthers re-established a lead in the third quarter and led until there was less than 90 seconds left in the game. Starrs Mill hit a big shot with 17 seconds left and hung on for the 39-38 win. Rollins scored 14 points for Starrs Mill, while Meredith Lytle added six. Richea Harris scored 10 points for the Lady Tigers. The boys won 57-51 on the strength of controlling the games tempo and getting a total of 27 rebounds from Nick Plotner (7), Mark Harris (7), Vinnie LeDonne (7) and Ryan Madsen (6). They really got after it, said Coach Dave Edinger, who was proud of the effort of his team. I saw some really good things from this team. They played together and leaned on each other at key moments. Mark Harris led the team in scoring with 22 points, while Stephan Plesant scored 16 for the Tigers. McIntoshs boys and girls split with Woodward Academy on Tuesday night. The Lady Chiefs lost 52-26, while the boys won 77-72. It was the Chiefs third win in four games and a lot of credit can go to Dwayne Irvin, who once again led the Chiefs in scoring with 29 points. McIntosh will start a three game homestand in their new gym tomorrow. They will begin with a game against cross-town rivals, Starrs Mill, and will follow it with a game against region rival Sandy Creek and a game against Northagte to finish the regular season. The Northgate game will also be Senior Night for McIntosh. Sandy Creeks boys and girls picked up another region win a piece on Tuesday with wins over Whitewater. The Lady Patriots (18-3) won 57-37 with Mary Fields and Morganne Campbell each scoring 14 points. Whitewaters girls were led by 16 points from Brittany Vining. The Sandy Creek boys team (18-3) won 69-40 with Aaron Caruthers scoring 13 points.
