CTK members collect clothing for the needyFor the fourth year, the congregation of Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church in Sharpsburg participated in the winter Coat and Warm Clothing Drive for the less fortunate. In 2001, Dawn Dickerson of Newnan proposed that blankets be collected for the homeless residing under the bridges in Atlanta. The congregation collected more than 50 blankets which were given away. The process was repeated in 2002. In 2003, the emphasis was shifted to Thomaston where hundreds were out of work because of a major plant closing. Partnering with The Society of St. Nicholas at the Cathedral of St. Michael and All Angels in Thomaston, Christ the King members collected coats, sweaters, sweat shirts, gloves and other items of warmth that were given to the 125-150 families that St. Michaels provides with groceries each week. Dan Ahart of Fayetteville, a certified public accountant and applicant for the Sacrament of Holy Orders, headed up that drive. Ahart again spearheaded the drive for 2004-2005 and nearly 200 items were collected and distributed over a two-week period. Also participating in the handing out of warm clothing this year were Jana Gossett of Peachtree City, Pat Jones of Newnan and Dawn De Leo of Newnan. Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church is on Ga. Hwy. 34, west of Peachtree City. For information, call 770-252-2428. |
