Gustavus College Choir to appear in PTC Feb. 1The Gustavus Choir, said to be one of the nations finest Lutheran college choirs, will present a concert Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City. Under the direction of Dr. Gregory J. Aune, the choir is on a three-week concert tour to selected cities in the middle states and east coast. There is no charge, but a freewill offering will be taken to help defray expenses of touring. The choir has toured annually throughout the United States and abroad during its 73-year history. Recent concert venues include St. Peters Basilica in Rome, St. Marks Cathedral in Venice, Carmel Mission Basilica in Carmel, Calif., and St. Georges Cathedral in Cape Town, South Africa. Founded in 1862, Gustavus Adolphus College is a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Music is one of its many academic programs nationally recognized for excellence. The Gustavus Choir is one of seven choirs and 27 ensembles supported by the music department on the Gustavus Adolphus campus. The Gustavus Choir is recognized for its musical approach to singing and high standards of performance, a spokesperson said. The tour program will feature a broad historical spectrum of sacred and secular choral music including Felix Mendelssohns For God Commanded Angels and Olivier Messiaens mystical O Sacrum Convivium two fine examples of standard works in the great choral repertoire. Also featured in this years program is a recently commissioned work by Canadian composer Imant Raminsch, Mighty River, Mighty Fire.
