Jail escapee still on the looseBy LEE WILLIAMS Agents of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force have several leads, but they still have not captured a Senoia man who escaped from the Fayette County Jail Jan. 5. Timothy Allen Harrison, 36, whose last known address is 190 Chestlehurst Drive, was being held on a laundry list of charges including theft by receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools, Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, carrying a concealed weapon, giving a false name to an officer, driving on an expired tag, altered tag, driving on a suspended license and wrong license plate, Fayette County Sheriffs Department officials said. Harrison also was wanted by the Heard County Sheriffs Department, the Lawrenceville Police Department and possibly the Gilmer County Sheriffs Department when he shimmied up a basketball pole and pried a hole in an overhead jail fence to escape. A waiting pickup truck collected Harrison, a convicted burglar, who eluded the jails state-of-the-art security surveillance system and got around the jails barb-wire fence without leaving a shred of evidence. The incident was the first successful escape since the new jail opened about three years ago. A manhunt ensued shortly after he was discovered missing around 9 p.m. Jan. 5, but it yielded no arrest, officials said. The case was turned over to the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force comprised of agents from the U.S. Marshals Office. I think hes still in the area, U.S. Marshals Office Inspector James Ergas said Friday. We have leads, but the best lead is when hes in handcuffs. However, Fayette County jail officials said earlier that Harrison was not believed to be in the immediate area. When he is captured, Ergas said Harrison will be brought back to the Fayette County Jail. The guy who is working on the case is a very good investigator and he is following up on all leads, Ergas said. All the agencies that have warrants out for him are working together. Everyone is working together. Its just a matter of getting the right lead that leads to him. Harrison had been in the custody of the Fayette County Jail since his Dec. 9 arrest by the Fayetteville Police Department. Harrison and April Chappell, 21, of 21 Barnes St., Senoia, were arrested by Fayetteville police after they found a sawed-off shotgun, burglary tools, methamphetamine, marijuana and CS gas or tear gas in the stolen car Harrison drove. Harrison is considered armed and dangerous, authorities said. A reward is being offered for information that leads up to the arrest and conviction of Harrison, Ergas said. |
