McIntosh finishing strong in recent meetsMcIntosh High School boys finished second out of 15 schools competing Saturday in the Panther Pack swim meet in Augusta, their fourth outing since semester break. The McIntosh girls finished in seventh place. The Chiefs performance followed a sweep of Northgate High School last Friday night at Kedron Aquatic Center. At Augusta, the Chiefs took first in the boys 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay with swimmers Vincent Tortora, Thomas Lucak, Chris Lee and Kyle Miller. Tortora also took first in the 200-freestyle, with Miller finishing fourth. Lee finished third in the 50 freestyle, Lucak captured third in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, and Tortora placed third in 500-yard freestyle. Nicole Roddenberry led the McIntosh girls with a third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 breaststroke. Fridays meet with Northgate was a good warm-up for the Panther Pack meet, with the boys winning all of their events and the girls doing almost as well, for a combined score of 335 to 220. The Chiefs also turned in a good performance Jan. 8 at the Augusta Aquatic Center, with a second-place finish by the boys and fourth for the girls. The boys relay team of Tortora, Lucak, Miller and Bryan Mitchell won both the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay in that five-team meet. In individual events, Tortora was first in the 500 freestyle and second in the 200 freestyle. Lucak won the 100 freestyle and finished third in the 100 butterfly, Mitchell won the 100 breaststroke and took second in the 200 individual medley, Miller took a pair of thirds for the 200 and 500 freestyle, and Andrew Morton added a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle. For the girls, Nicole Rodenberry took third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 100 butterfly, and Rose Tortora finished fourth in the 200 freestyle. The Chiefs also participated in the Houston County Invitational Jan. 6, bringing home firsts in boys 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay with Lucak, Tortora, Mitchell and Lee. McIntosh also claimed firsts in boys 200 individual medley (Mitchell), girls 100 butterfly (Nicole Roddenberry), boys 100 freestyle (Lee), boys 500 freestyle (Tortora), boys 100 backstroke (Lucak) and boys 100 breastroke (Mitchell). The Chiefs have one event this weekend in Athens before the county meet Jan. 29.
