McIntosh hands Northgate a split in their new gym
mboylan@TheCitizenNews.com McIntosh traveled to Northgate High School on Tuesday and had the honor of being their first opponent in their new gym. Though the Lady Chiefs lost 49-37, the boys won 59-53. The McIntosh girls team (2-12) got the first basket in the new gym, thanks to Elyse Chubb, and they had an 11-7 lead after the first quarter. They were outscored 11-3 in the second quarter though and went into the locler room at halftime trailing. They charged towards the lady Vikings early in both the third and fourth quarters but Northgate went on a big run towards the end of the fourth to seal the win. The boys started their game with a big boost from a familiar name these days, Dwayne Irvin, who finished with 27 points. Irvin also has the distinction of scoring the first basket in a boys game in the new gym. McIntosh led by nine going into the second quarter and pushed it to a 10 point halftime lead. Northgate closed the gap to four points in the fourth quarter but couldnt get any closer. It was the Chiefs second win of the year. Tonight they will play at Whitewater, the first team they beat this season. The boys are currently fourth in the sub-region with a 2-3 record, while Whitewaters boys are in fifth place with a 1-4 sub-region record. Whitewater got swept on Tuesday night. The girls lost to Woodward Academy 67-22, while the boys fell 58-51. Jay Bright and Stephen Sargent both scored 13 points a piece in the loss. Sandy Creeks boys and girls both sit on top of the sub-region standings with undefeated records. The boys picked up another region win on Tuesday, handing Creekside a 66-56 loss. Aaron Carruthers scored 32 points for the Patriots in the win. The girls welcomed Mary Fields back on the floor as she scored 20 points in Sandy Creeks 51-42 win. Sandy Creek will host Northgate tonight and will host Whitewater on Tuesday. Fayette County split with Newnan on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers lost 45-27 to Newnan, which is undefeated in region play, while the boys won 62-54. Kristin Bunch scored 10 points for Fayettes girls, while Stephan Pleasant led the boys with 15 points and Channing Welch added 12 points, 21 rebounds and six assists. Starrs Mill was off on Tuesday. They will host East Coweta tonight and will host Fayette County on Tuesday.
