Patriot boys pick up wins over Fayette teams, Sargent picks up triple-double for WildcatsBy MICHAEL BOYLAN Sandy Creeks boys and girls faced McIntosh on Friday and Fayette County on Saturday. The boys went 2-0 while the Lady Patriots split the games. On Friday night, Sandy Creeks girls defeated McIntosh 44-16. China Dennis, a transfer from Creekside playing in her first game for the Sandy Creek varsity, led the team with 12 points, while Tracey Paschal added 11 and Olympia Haney added 10. On Saturday, the girls lost to Fayette County 34-31. Sandy Creek committed eight turnovers in the fourth quarter and didnt hit a field goal in the final six minutes of the game. Our inability to hit clutch shots at the end really hurt us, said Coach Jim Waller. Paschal had nine points for the lady Patriots in the loss, while Kristin Bunch led the Lady Tigers with 13 points and five rebounds and Richea Harris had 12 points and four steals. On the boys side, the Patriots defeated McIntosh 58-39 and then defeated Fayette County the next day 71-60. So far, the Patriots have defeated Starrs Mill and Fayette County twice this season and have defeated region opponents Whitewater and McIntosh once a piece. The Sandy Creek boys are currently ranked eighth in Class AAAA in the GaSports.com weekly poll. Sandy Creek faced Creekside on Tuesday night after the paper went to press and will host Northgate on Friday. Whitewater had two region games last weekend. The Lady Wildcats lost both, falling to Creekside 54-29 on Friday and losing to Alexander 60-51 on Saturday. The boys (7-9) split the two games, losing to Creekside 76-59 and then defeating Alexander 52-50. Jay Bright had a huge weekend for Whitewater, scoring 25 points in the Creekside game and then dropping 29 points in Saturdays win. He is averaging 19 points a game in his last 10 games. Stephen Sargent joined Bright with an awesome game on Saturday, getting a triple-double by scoring 10 points, pulling in 17 rebounds and blocking 10 shots. He narrowly missed another triple-double the night before with 11 points, nine rebounds and nine blocks. I really see the guys maturing in their knowledge of the game each time we step out on the court, said Coach Brent Jackson. Jackson also cited good play over the weekend from Zach Scurry, Ricky Sinkfield, Trey Scales and Kevin Lewallen. Whitewater will host McIntosh on Friday and will play at Dutchtown on Saturday. In other games from over the weekend, Fayette Countys Lady Tigers (12-6) defeated Union Grove on Friday 42-22, while the boys won 60-36. Bunch led the girls with 19 points and eight rebounds. Fayette County will host Mundys Mill on Friday. Starrs Mills boys and girls lost to Mundys Mill on Friday. The boys lost 56-48 after leading for most of the game, while the girls lost 65-48. Angela Garza led the Lady Panthers with 19 points. Starrs Mill will host East Coweta.
