Tuesday nights high school basketball games featured a number of region matchups and the results were good for some and not so good for others.
Starrs Mills boys and girls split with Newnan with the Lady Panthers falling 46-27 and the boys winning 59-47. Starrs Mills girls had a hard time scoring on Tuesday, trailing 23-6 at the half and 32-10 heading in to the fourth quarter. Meredith Lytle led the Lady Panthers with 11 points. The boys had the hot shooting hands, building a 32-19 lead at the half and stretching it out further in the third quarter before Newnan closed the gap. Mark Harris scored 19 points for the Panthers and Vinnie LeDonne added 14.
The Lady Panthers are 1-4 in the region and the boys are 2-4. They will play at Mundys Mill tonight.
McIntosh had the tough task of taking on Creekside. The Lady Chiefs lost to the Seminoles 50-34, while the boys fell 74-57. Erin Justice led the girls with 13 points and Jason Williams led the boys with 22 points. The boys and girls teams are both 1-3 in the region. They will play at Sandy Creek tonight. The Sandy Creek teams are undefeated in the region. The Lady Patriots defeated Woodward Academy 63-29 on Tuesday with Tracey Paschal scoring 19 points, while the boys won 70-44.
In other Tuesday night games, Fayette County split with Lovejoy. The Lady Tigers lost 56-42 with Kristin Bunch scoring 19 points, while the boys won 58-51 with Jordan Windisch scoring 17 points. Fayette County will host Union Grove tonight and will play at Sandy Creek on Saturday. Whitewater also split with Northgate. The Lady Wildcats lost 44-32 with Marisa Williams scoring 13 points and pulling in six rebounds, while the boys won 48-47. Trey Scales, a new player who just recently moved to the area, hit the winning shot in the final second to give Whitewater the win. He finished with eight points, as did Kevin Lewallen. Whitewater plays at Creekside tonight and plays at Alexander tomorrow.
